“Fluid virtuosity” on display in Queensland, Australia

From the end of July, Julian was based in Townsville, QLD (Australia), rehearsing and performing with a selection of the world’s top chamber musicians for the 28th Australian Festival of Chamber Music, with 10 concerts over an exciting and busy week.

His performance at Townsville Civic Theatre on 2 August has been described as displaying ‘fluid virtuosity’ during a performance of Bartók’s Contrasts with violinist Dene Olding and British pianist Katya Apekisheva.

This weekend, Julian joins Camerata – Queensland’s Chamber Orchestra – for performances at QPAC Concert Hall, Brisbane (Friday 10 August) and the Empire Church Theatre, Toowoomba (Saturday 11 August) with a programme including Copland’s Clarinet Concerto.

Towards the end of the month, Julian travels to Parramatta, NSW (25 August) and Canberra, ACT (28 August), to rejoin NZTrio for Timelight: a programme of chamber music both vibrant and profound, at the heart of which is Messiaen’s masterpiece Quartet for the End of Time.
