The Vier Ernste Gesänge were written just after the two Sonatas for Clarinet. They are dark, powerful and reflect Brahms own personal hardships. This set of songs pair very well with other Brahms and were recorded by myself and James Baillieu recently. The first three songs are on A Clarinet and the last is on Bb -Julian
